| Judge Hallock was engaged in the private practice of law
from 1978 until his appointment as an associate judge in 1992. A
lifelong Elgin resident, he began practice at the firm of Wilder &
Michniewicz (later Wilder, Michniewicz & Hallock and ultimately Wilder
& Hallock).
These firms were located in the First Federal Savings building at the
corner of North Grove Street and East Highland Avenue in downtown Elgin.
His work as a lawyer was comprised of a combination of office practice and
court related matters. The primary emphasis of these firms was
mortgage foreclosure and Saving & Loan practice.
In addition to Savings & Loan work, Judge Hallock also concentrated
in Real Estate Transactions; Wills & Trusts; Landlord/Tenant matters
and sorted and sundry other legal problems that come to a general
practitioner.
After the retirement of his partner Jim Wilder, Judge Hallock was also
associated with the firms of Gomberg & Sharfman in downtown Elgin and
Brittain & Ketchum in both Elgin and Carpentersville. These
firms also did extensive Savings and Loan work.
During these years he made court appearances in Kane, Cook, Lake,
McHenry, DuPage, DeKalb and Winnebago counties. In addition to court
appearances in these counties, he also traveled to dozens of title
companies and financial institutions for real estate closings. Like
many attorneys in the suburban area, he seemed to live more in his car
than anywhere else.
